Black Friday 28 Nov 2008

Day 2 of this experiment

Tragic days, with terror strikes in Mumbai, India. Home of Bollywood (India film industry) and financial hub of the largest democracy in the world. Also, deaths associated with shopping, of all things. Wal-Mart "temporary" worker dies in onslaught of people trying to beat each other to bargains. Pregnant woman injured in melee. People shot & killed at a Best Buy store in California. (have not heard if this was "shopping related")

I've got to take a step back, and a deep breath.

The crisis in India looms large. There have been conflicts between factions in that area since before the English left in 1948. India & Pakistan (along with Bangladesh) were birthed in blood, of their own cause then, and now. One can only surmise that Americans and other Westerners were targeted because the media lights would shine brighter and longer with their deaths. Similar to the Civil Rights struggles in the USA got more coverage when the Northern whites & celebrities became involved. At this point I have not heard of what the forty people said to have been involved wanted or were demanding. If it was coverage, carnage & calamity, they appear to have succeeded.

I love it! You're a blogger , for sure! How tragic are the India events. Our tour operator wrote the sweetest note - offering for cancel our tour if we wanted, but we said NO WAY!.. We won't stop living our lives or the terrorists win. Check my blog for snippets of an enlightening interview of Depok Chopra about the situation. I think he is a very wise man.

a hug,
Nancy

It's sort of like being on the radio, as I was years ago. You're just there talking and never sure if there's anyone listening. We who have so much space to be in and take so much for granted do have so very much to be thankful for.

I understand exactly what you are saying. I've been doing my 'travel blogs' for a couple of years and hardly ever does anyone comment on them. Sometimes I think "I'm just doing this for my own pleasure." - Not that there is anything wrong with that. (I like to think of them as 'scrapbooks) But you'll be surprised at the number of folks who DO read your blog. Some are intimadated by writing back in a public venue. Some dont' know How to reply on a blog. And some just prefer to read, but not comment. You know what I way about it all, Rod? I say - It's ALL good.! :-) And you'll find out months from now that something you wrote touched someone.... You can take that to the bank!
